A Pair of Classical Games Tables

Beautifully modeled solid mahogany boards top this handsome pair of early Classical games tables. When the tables are opened, the graining is as figured as one would expect to see on veneered tops. Below the tops, concave-shaped aprons with canted corners are covered with figured mahogany veneers. The standards swell out as they reach the plinths. Delicately carved collars surround the standards and larger carvings join them to the base. The outswept legs are completely veneered and terminate with elaborately cast brass toe caps and casters with gilt-lacquered finishes. A labeled pair of Emmons & Archbald games tables at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston share similar details to these tables.
