Aftributed to R. Whittingham. New York. Brass / Bell Metal not polished.
Having Ball tops with conforming log stops. This form usually sits on ball feet, however this pair have an early ball and claw foot.
Interesting that the back of the legs and feet , the brass is "hollowed out". We find this normally in Boston Andirons, as brass was expensive. Wittingham was a British supporter, and left before the war of 1812. Note: if your making andirons, u are probably making munitions.
all original, no repairs, fit tight.
