This rare pair of New York Classical armchairs is reminiscent of the work executed by D. Phyfe and Son. While the design appears simple, the chairs are composed of complex planes and curves. The backs are ornamented with beautiful crotch mahogany veneers. Long scrolled arms rest on top of small columns with carved capitals and the sides of the arms are adorned with oval veneered panels. The bowed seat rail is veneered in crotch mahogany. Tapering to the floor, the front legs appear as upside down obelisks.
