The medallion plates are among the rarest and most desirable of all the historical blue Staffordshire pieces.  Few were made and even fewer have survived.  They rarely even come on the market.  These are the first examples that we have ever had the pleasure of owning.  In addition it is the first Jefferson piece of any kind that we have ever had.  Washington, Franklin and LaFayette items countless times but never Jefferson until now!
He is accompanied by DeWitt Clinton, governor of New York, who was the main driving force behind the Erie Canal which opened in 1825.  The Aqueduct Bridge at Little Falls which was part of the Canal is pictured at the bottom and the U.S. Hotel in NYC is shown in the center transfer.
Although unlabeled we know that the plates were made in Staffordshire for the American market circa 1825 by Ralph Stevenson & Williams.  They are in exceptional original condition with no repairs or defects.  The tiny dots of blue color on the Jefferson plate and a few other very minor surface imperfections are all original to the plate and in the making.  This is possibly the only opportunity one will have to acquire these fantastic plates.
