1874 - 1907 // Presented to Tom C. Grant // By Past And Present Members of His Staff // San Francisco // California // December 31, 1907. After a medical discharge from the Union Army, young Grant sailed from New York to California in search of opportunity. He joined the Old Pacific insurance firm in 1864 & was quickly appointed to the Fireman’s Fund. By 1874 he was named Pacific Manager to the North British & Mercantile Insurance Company, a position that he held thirty-three years until December 31, 1907. This gift commemorates that retirement.
Grant not only enjoyed a lengthy, pioneering career in the insurance industry, but was integral in handling insurance claims during San Francisco’s rebuilds from the 1874 & 1906 earthquake.
Nice polish w/ some stubborn lacquer. Less than a dime sized abrasion / push top left from text (shows in detail photo) & push top right of the empty side. Not noticeable from most angles.
