Chinese Export Porcelain American Market Ship Spoon Tray,
Circa 1785-90
The Chinese Export porcelain spoon tray is painted in famille rose with an American three-masted ship under full sail. The ship sails on a green sea and flies an American flag from the fore bow and stern, A red banner flutters from the mainmast. The rim of the spoon tray is painted with blue enamel.
Dimensions: 5 inches wide. x 3 3/4 inches deep x 3/4 inch high.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art has a similar spoon tray and tea service also decorated with a ship decorated in a similar manner. Helena Woolworth McCann Collection, Gift of Winfield Foundation, 1951; Object Number: 51.86.403.
