1830s Velvet Frock Child & Spaniel Dog Oil Painting Portrait

Little boy locks his dark eyes w/ the viewer. His loyal dog encircles him & looks adoringly up at his young masters face. This is not far from a classic Christ child composition w/ the family dog standing in for a lamb.

Crimson velvet frock, white lace & gold button w/ one shoe kicked sweetly to the ground. Reminding us no matter how commanding, our sitter is just a child. Framed by a dark forest interior & fine textiles // feathered hat foreground.

29 x 36” canvas on original stretcher. Conservative canvas repairs to stabilize tears & minor in-painting. Neatly accomplished.

Housed in an attractive (later) polychrome frame, though the subjects would stand up to a much more ornate frame if desired.
