Renowned Antiques Dealer To Be Honored In Memoriam During New York City’s Americana Week

Where: The Park Avenue Armory, 67th St. & Park Ave.
When: Sunday, January 22, 2012 10:00 am - 11:00

On Sunday, January 22nd, 2012, from 10am-11am, the Antiques Dealers' Association of America, Inc. will host a memorial reception and tribute for the late Albert Sack [1915-2011]. The reception will be held in the Tiffany Room at the Park Avenue Armory in conjunction with the Winter Antiques Show. Sack, who for many years was the face of the firm Israel Sack, Inc., was also a respected author, antiques dealer, and the first recipient of the prestigious ADA Award of Merit.

The middle son of Israel Sack, Albert joined his father’s distinguished firm in 1934 where he established himself as a major force in the Americana marketplace throughout the second half of the 20th century.  Sack’s book,The Fine Points of Furniture, better known in the trade as “Good, Better, Best,” was first published in 1950 and introduced many thousands to the important subtleties and beauty of American antiques. Albert is remembered as warm and giving; sharing his vast knowledge through lectures, television appearances and during his visits to antiques shops, shows, and auctions.

Guest speakers for the event will include Albert’s son, Donald Sack; his long time colleague and consultant, Deanne Levinson; and Dr. Patricia E. Kane, the Friends of American Arts Curator of American Decorative Arts at the Yale University Art Gallery.  Please join the ADA for a moment of appreciation and tribute to one of the leading antiques dealers of our time.  Light refreshments will be served.

The Antiques Dealers’ Association of America , Inc. (ADA) was established in May 1984 as a non-profit trade association. Its major objective is to make more professional the business of buying and selling antiques.
