HEPPLEWHITE MAHOGANY INLAID LOLLING CHAIR MASSACHUSETTS CIRCA 1790'S

Lolling chairs are beautiful to look at, comfortable and practical to use.  So, then, why were they only made in MA and for only about 20 years?  I wish I knew!  In any case they are one of my favorite furniture forms.  They are great to use in the middle of a room because unlike wing chairs they are not massive and don't block sight lines.  This example is especially nice because it has the decorative light wood string inlay on the arms that continues all the way down the legs.  Note especially the beautiful curve of the arms and the slender profile of the back as seen from the side.Overall excellent original structural condition with the usual expected small repairs by the arms.  In need of reupholstering.  We would be more than happy to help with new fabric.
