M. Peabody painted box

A Folk Art paint decorated round storage box for “M. Peabody”, with hand pointing at the name and unusual geometric design in orange over a green ground.

American, probably New England, 1820 – 1845.

Maple and eastern white pine.

The prominent and boldly painted name with hand and heart decoration suggests “M.PEABODY” was the proud owner of this brightly colored box. The interior of the box is signed in pencil twice “C. Carleton”, suggesting that may be the signature of the maker or painter who decorated the box.

Condition: In excellent condition with original construction and retaining an undisturbed original paint decorated surface.
