Early Mustard Painted Tabletop Double-Candleholder with Removable Candle Cup

Northeast America, probably New England, ca. 1820-1840. Original dry, patinated, mustard paint on pine or poplar with removable tin crimped candle cups, the paint carrying to the candle cups as well as the wood frame, proving that the candle cups are original to the piece. Central column with eased edges supported by a chamfered base mortice-and-tenoned to a carved rail, integrally carved with two prickets, on which fits the conical extended bases of the candle cups. The pricket fitting is most unusual. The underside of the base is inscribed with an old museum accession number. About 12 inches tall x 9 wide. Marvelous condition and form.
