Largest of molded copper "Dexter", Trotting Horse Weathervanes made. Attributed to L.W.Cushing & Sons, Waltham,Mass., Having original directionals, displayed on a custom post and stand. Could be displayed without stand and directionals, and we would have an appropriate stand made.
Reference: L.W.Cushing Catalog, 1883, ( photo inclosed). Shows the Rare 42 inch model of "Dexter" , as no. 75, page 7, and these cardinal points on page 20.
Condition: Structurally all original, with wonderful Mustard Yellow Paint. The thick paint is probably 75 plus years old, showing significant crazing.
"Dexter": Was considered "Worlds premiere trotter", dominating races between 1864-1867. So much information available: from Currier and Ives pictures, won 46 of 50 races, to pulled Presidential Candidate, Ulysses S. Grant. A great race horse, that had to be on top of your barn!
