Rare, deep set, carved wood and painted portraits of a wife and gentleman with blue painted backgrounds, in decorative metal oval frames. 1815 - 1820.
These were previously in The Strong Museum of Rochester, New York. The Strong Museum was established in 1968 through a gift of Margaret Woodbury Strong, an active and prolific collector of dolls and toys. Before she died in 1969, she bequeathed her considerable estate to help support the museum, originally known as the Margaret Woodbury Strong Museum of Fascination.
Fascination, indeed.
