Probably Continental, possibly French, first half of the 19th c.
Terracotta.
Over-all in great condition, expected wear and patina with age. (Contemporary plinths).
This rare pair of unglazed, earthenware lions probably adorned an entrance way and were likely used outdoors. The expression of the lions’ faces and flowing manes are features seen on early examples. They have survived in a remarkable state of preservation.
