An exemplary tiger maple tall clock with unique inlaid designs from York County, Pennsylvania. The case of this tall clock is made of striped or "tiger" maple, with contrasting walnut colonettes and quarter columns. There is significant architectural detail in the hood as well as the inlaid initials "MHP" and additional geometric and floral motifs inlaid on the pendulum door. The eight day movement is attributed to John Fisher, a leading clockmaker of York, Pennsylvania.
According to historian John Snyder, the initials "M H P" may stand for (M)ichael (H)amms (P/B)acher, who is listed in the 1790 census in Shrewsbury Township, York County.
Condition: case is in excellent condition with its original rosettes and an exceptional old surface. Last 3/4 inch of feet are pieced out. Dial is carefully restored based on a related dial and identical movement by John Fisher.
