A Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, carved walnut dressing table

One of the most fully developed examples of carved Lancaster case furniture, this dressing table reflects a distinctive Germanic interpretation of the Philadelphia rococo style. The carving is executed from the solid wood (a Germanic trait), rather than applied in the Philadelphia manner. This Pennsylvania German table descended in a family from Smoketown, Lancaster County, PA; it was purchased in the mid-1900s by Floyd Hinden for his personal collection. Excellent condition; retains most of its original brasses; patch to one rear foot.
