PROBABLY UNIQUE PAIR OF DUNCAN PHYFE ROSEWOOD UPHOLSTERED ARMCHAIRS CIRCA 1835

These incredible chairs are made of solid rosewood and rosewood veneer.  Where the veneers are used, the substrate is mahogany in typical Phyfe fashion.  The carved legs and armholds are exquisitely done.  And the overall design of the chairs is the finest.  The serpentine seat rails, crest rail, arms and armholds are beautifully matched to produce a unified design.  These are products of Phyfe's final design period known as "Grecian Plain Style".  There is no extraneous ornamentation, such as gilding or stenciling, and yet, what a wonderful result.  Who else but Phyfe could have accomplished this?  We are not aware of any other chairs of this type in any public collection.  We believe they are unique products of Phyfe's workshop.  The chairs are in completely original structural condition with a recent reupholstery and ready to go into your home and be enjoyed.
