INCREDIBLE FOLK ART MARQUETRY TILT TOP TABLE CIRCA 1876

A relatively common furniture form is elevated to folk art masterpiece status due to the creativity of a highly skilled yet still unknown woodworker in the Albany, NY area at the time of the Centennial.  All of the inlays in the top are hand made creating this marvelous marquetry top.  The table is made of mahogany and is of an identical form to any late 18th century example.  Because it is a tilt top table it may be used with the top horizontal or vertical against a wall to better display the marquetry.  Another similar example is owned by the NY Historical Society and is pictured on the back cover of the book "American Furniture of the Nineteenth Century" by Celia Otto".
