It is quite unusual for a Liverpool jug to be decorated with 2 first class desirable transfers. The ship proudly bears an American flag with 16 stars which coincides with TN's becoming a state in 1796. Note the beautiful hand painting of the scene. The Apotheosis of Washington is without a doubt the finest transfer ever put on a Liverpool jug. Only the most skillful engraver would have been called upon to execute it. The third transfer under the spout
of the eagle and shield was used by the Herculaneum company which produced the finest wares in all of England in the early 19th century.
In excellent condition with minor museum quality invisible restoration.
Overall a truly fine and desirable example of this art form. If you desire to add only one jug to your collection this should be it.
