8.9 x 11.6 Antique Bakshaish Carpet With Open Field design, Heriz District, Northwest Persia, Circa 1900
Antique carpets from the Heriz district in northwest Persia’s Azerbaijan province with Open Field designs are frequently attributed to the village of Bakshaish. This carpet features an ivory medallion floating on a variegated (“abrashed”) red open field. Beautifully drawn sky blue corner spandrels and a brick red border frame the field.
