Exceptional New England, early 19th century lift top box with a repeating pattern of houses, bordered by flowers and leaves. House stencil shows a formal colonial house with double chimneys. Vibrant yellow ground and tomato red offer a dramatic color contrast with only 2 colors. This is a case where less is more. Visible dovetail construction. A worthy addition to any great painted Folk Art collection. Ht. 10 1/2 inches; wd. 23 3/4 inches; do. 11 3/4 inches. Square nails and butt hinges. Original lock and latch. No restoration. Box is pine.
