Being offered separately are two Native American archery bow guards or ketoh's. Originally the form was used to protect the wearer's forearm from damage inflicted by a bow's string when an arrow is released. Ketoh's later became more of a prestige or decorative bracelet for their owners.
The example on the left is Navajo, constructed of coin silver, turquiose, and harness leather, circa 1930's. In excellent condition, currently the silver is in a natural oxidized patina finish but could be polished for a different presentation; exhibits ethnographic use wear. Attached is an old pawn shop tag from the Southwest. 4 1/8 by 3 1/8 inches (Ketoh) Price: $1,450
The Ketoh on the right is Zuni Pueblo, the imagery depicted is the "Knife-Wing" kachina (spirit god). This example is constructed of coin silver, turquiose, shell, jet, and harness leather. Circa: late 1930-40's period. Excellent condition with minor use wear. Price: $1,950
