Hannah Woolman
Darby, Delaware Co, PA dated 1827
Hannah worked this beautiful sampler at age 17. Her father John Woolman (1780-1830) was from Burlington County, NJ, and her mother Naomi Hibberd (1788-1838) was born in Chester County, PA. Hannah was the oldest of eleven children. Her family moved to Darby, PA, when she was about 9 years old. The initials on the sampler are of her parents and paternal grandparents.
A type written note on the back informs us of the provenance up to 1941 and indicates that Hannah was described as “best grandmother”, and some genealogical information.
Silk on wool.
