While a student at the Mary Balch school in Providence, RI, Cynthia stitched this elegant silk embroidered picture with a shaded blue urn and baskets on a hillock ground, and at the top a floral garland with bowtie ribbons. Similar motifs and layout are found on several other needlework pictures from the school.

The stitched inscription, Wrought by Cynthia Williams 1803, is characteristic of the Balch school.
