New England, probably Maine, ca. 1790-1800.
Hardwoods, red over green paint.
Condition: Fine condition, minor imperfections, old red paint over earlier green
This rare tall example was probably made for a craftsman and used for utilitarian purposes. The chair has great sculptural form with bamboo-turnings and splayed legs. The rod-back is flanked by bamboo-turned arms above a shaped plank seat supported by tall bamboo-turned legs and stretchers. Wonderful untouched paint history.
