18th Century American Quaker Baby Slipper/Shoe



A single baby slipper/ shoe, signed and dated “Mary Lamborn Wilkinson 4th month 1753.”

 Daughter of Robert Lamborn born 1697 of London Grove, Pennsylvania, Mary married Joseph Wilkinson who was a Quaker farmer from London Grove, PA.

Shoe was part of a collection of miscellaneous items found in a family spice chest made in Chester County. Shoe has been in the family until now.

Appears to be woven silk upper – cream background with trailing tan and brown stems and leaves, hand stitched brown binding, leather sole. Signed on the sole. Filled with old cotton to retain shape. 4” length 2” height 1 ½” width. Excellent condition commensurate with age.
