Important Shaker Desk on Frame

A rare and probably unique example of utilitarian Shaker design in an absolutely undisturbed condition being offered for the first time.  Having a dovetailed case desk with a slant lid having applied moldings and shaped back splash supported by a mortise and tenon frame with a shaped cut-out (for the legs of the user), fitted with a dovetailed drawer (with tapered drawer sides), and standing on four square to round tapered legs.  There is also a drop leaf attached to the rear of the desk portion supported by a hand wrought iron swing-out brace.  Butternut, cherry and pine in the same fine condition it left the Shaker Community of Enfield, CT early in the 20th Century.
Descended in the Meacham Family of Enfield, CT.
