Danish designer Niels Erik Glasdam Jensen, the founder of Vantige Møbilindustri. His mid-20th century teak and rosewood carts are desirable for collectors, and evoke the aesthetics and atmosphere of the fun-loving 1960s.

Danish mid-century modern furniture design is characterized by clean, pure lines based on classical furniture craftsmanship coupled with careful research into materials and proportions, and was manufactured primarily in the 1950s and 60s. Furniture makers of the time created it as the “aesthetic of the creative class,” according to Daniel Engber of the Los Angeles Times. “It’s full of joy and optimism, not so serious, easy to appreciate.”

Mid-20th century Scandinavian furniture’s quality has contributed to its recent popularity. “I am talking about a level of craftsmanship you could not touch today,” said Chris Mitchell, publisher of Vanity Fair of Danish modern furniture in a 2016 Wall Street Journal article. Danish furniture makers of the time spent as much as a decade on the academic study of their craft, and often produced pieces in small runs of 150 to 200 units, adding to their value.
