Extremely Rare Chippendale Candle Box with Ogee Base

Northeast America, ca. 1785. Cherry primary wood, bottom board appears to be poplar. Ogee bracket base, a form seen on miniature and full size Chippendale chests, yet scarcely encountered on a candle box. The chamfered lid slides easily and securely into the molded rim. Stout box with dovetailed corners. Excellent condition, crisp and clean, a couple of very minor hairlines, old or original surface. The ogee feet are in remarkable condition and appear to retain all original glue blocks. About 14 inches long x 6 wide x 5 5/8 tall.
