A rare and fine Newport, RI tea, or breakfast table with a molded and dished top, urn-shaped post, and with cabriole legs ending in short pad feet. Mahogany, with birch block, the base retaining its original deep surface color. The shape of the cleats, the 'step' at the top of the leg, and the shape of the foot are all Goddard-Townsend characteristics. Newport, c.1760-70. Top 30 5/8" x 31 1/4", 28 1/2" ht. Descended in the Peckham family of Newport, RI.
