Dear Antiquer, Historic Deerfield welcomes you and the ADA back to Deerfield for another great antiques show over Columbus Day Weekend 2008 at Deerfield Academy. Awaiting the collector and the curious are wonderful treasures recently uncovered by over fifty of the leading dealers in America. Old Deerfield has long drawn lovers of history and antiques to this village. The museum’s roots go back to 1936 when the great collectors, Henry and Helen Flynt, first experienced the rich cultural character of Deerfield and began to gather wonderful things to illustrate how people lived in the old houses along this original village street.
Back by popular demand will be our festive Tavern Night celebration with colonial food, games, and dancing at the historic Hall Tavern on Saturday, October 11, starting at 6 p.m. Feast on a menu of traditional New England fare – all topped off with delicious beverages and desserts. Enjoy magical performances by historic conjurer Robert Olson, as well as an ensemble of musicians playing period music. For information and reservations, please contact Julie Orvis Marcinkiewicz at 413-775-7179 or events@historic-deerfield.org.
While here, please visit the new longterm exhibition Into the Woods: Crafting Early American Furniture. Explore a dazzling array of masterworks of furniture and decorative arts dating from 1675 to 1825, many from the George A. Cluett Collection of American Furniture and Clocks. On display are premier examples by famous American cabinetmakers including Duncan Phyfe and Honoré Lannuier, Samuel McIntire, John and Thomas Seymour, and John Townsend. Learn about antique furniture from the inside out, and gain a new understanding of the materials and craftsmanship that went into the creation of these spectacular objects through graphics, before-and-after views of conservation treatments, and innovative “exploded view” diplay techniques.
| | The show also features a changing section currently focusing on design and construction of clockcases. A group of ten clocks, most from the Cluett Collection, are used to illustrate themes in American clockmaking.
Also on view at the Flynt Center of Early New England Life is the permanent exhibition Celebrating the Fiber Arts: The Helen Geier Flynt Textile Gallery, featuring changing elements and examples of embroidery, woven silks, bed hangings, coverlets, quilts, costumes, and accessories spanning three centuries.

Be sure to visit “Engraved Powder Horns from the French and Indian War and the American Revolution: The William H. Guthman Collection,” and “What’s New: Recent Acquisitions at Historic Deerfield, 2007-2008.” We hope that you will find the time to tour our museum houses.
