Colonial Tavern Night
at
The 2005 ADA & Historic Deerfield Antiques Show

Historic Deerfield will once again host The ADA & Historic Deerfield Antiques Show, the premier show in New England for Early American furniture and decorative arts, on Columbus Day weekend, October 8th & 9th.  Over 50 of the country’s most respected antiques dealers will offer outstanding examples of American furniture and accessories made before 1850.  Collectors and dealers alike consider the show one of the best in the country for pre-industrial Americana—and this year many will go to the show to eat, drink and be merry as well as to enjoy the show’s fine offerings.

In keeping with the show’s focus on true Americana, the ADA and Historic Deerfield will present a special event, Colonial Tavern Night, at the end of the first day of the show.  All are invited to attend a memorable evening of colonial feasting, libations, entertainment, and revelry!  Re-enactors in colonial costume will serve a rich Hall Tavern dinner spread of dishes true to the colonial period, ranging from delicate smoked salmon (which ran in the Connecticut River in colonial times) to spicy locally-made sausage, hearty roasts of beef, and traditional roast stuffed turkey, all accompanied by a Native American dish made of squash and beans inspired by the local Pocumtuck people, other vegetables of the season and crusty homemade breads.  Those with room left for dessert can top off their dinners with apple, custard or pumpkin pie and special Tavern truffles.  There will be period music, games, dancing and entertainment throughout the evening!

The show itself will offer a complete range of Early Americana, from furniture to folk art, fine paintings, textiles, samplers, pewter and pottery—and in fact all categories in American design and folk art.  In addition, Historic Deerfield will offer collectors an unusual and exciting educational forum, “Peeling Back the Layers
: New Views on Old Paint,” in which two of the country’s foremost experts will explore the origins and leading schools of American paint-decorated furniture—and showcase furniture going back into the mid-1600s in a workshop setting.

From viewing and buying on the show floor, to exploring the origins of American paint-decorated furniture, strolling through Historic Deerfield’s period houses, or reveling at Colonial Tavern Night in colonial style, those interested in the finest Americana will enjoy a rare treat at this year’s ADA-Historic Deerfield Antiques Show.

Colonial Tavern Night will be held on Saturday, October 8, at 7:00 pm in Hall Tavern at the museum.  Its cost of $60 includes all food, beverage and entertainment for the evening ($50 for members of Historic Deerfield). Colonial Tavern Night numbers are limited (and hotels will be booked up early for the height of leaf-peeping season!).  The ADA and Historic Deerfield strongly encourage all who are interested to sign up early.  For further information about either the event or accommodation in the area, contact Dorrit Turner at dturner@historic-deerfield.org or 413-775-7201.  Alternatively, see the ADA website www.adadealers.com/ for suggestions on hotels and other accommodations.
